Bintulu: a venue shortlist for an industry programme

An industry programme in Bintulu often depends on who hosts it, so the shortlist starts with the host.

The short answer

For an industry programme, ask first who is hosting: an employer, an industry body or a venue. That answer decides which options are even open to you.

No convention venue in Bintulu is confirmed in published sources, so the shortlist is built from enquiries. Score the answers in the venue shortlist matrix.

Start with the host

An industry programme may sit on an employer's premises, in a hotel or at a venue the local authority manages. Each option carries different rules for entry, supplier access and what can be shown.

Settle the host first. Then compare venues that fit.

What to verify for Bintulu

  • Which Bintulu venues hold industry events? Ask Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and Business Events Sarawak. Business Events Sarawak's city pages cover Kuching and Miri, so ask whether it can connect you to venues in Bintulu.
  • Does the host's own site, if used, allow delegate entry? Ask the host in writing: entry rules, passes, identification and any briefing before entry. Ask the council which rules apply.
  • Which materials and photography rules apply? Ask the host, and put the answer in the delegate instructions.
  • Can the venue confirm hall size and layout in writing? Ask each venue for its capacity in each layout.
  • Which audio-visual, interpretation, catering and registration suppliers are available on your dates? Ask each venue and ask suppliers directly, because they may not travel from another city.
  • Does your event need a permit, especially for outdoor use? Ask BDA, which has events and tourism sections. Its page was not available, so confirm by direct enquiry.
  • Who operates the airport, and which flights can delegates take? Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd operates Bintulu airport, according to the Sarawak government page. Ask the operator and the airlines for your dates.
  • What do Peninsular delegates need on arrival? Ask the Immigration Department and read its page on the internal travel document. See Sarawak.
  • Which dates fall on the Sarawak weekend or a public holiday in Sarawak or a delegate's home state? Use the host-city date checker, then confirm with the host.
  • What is the fallback if the venue or a key supplier cannot deliver? Agree it before you sign.

What is different about Bintulu

The Sarawak government page describes Bintulu airport as supporting the offshore oil and gas industry. That tells you industry travel is part of the picture. It does not tell you what venues exist.

For a city with a named convention centre, see Kuching. The main difference here is that the host's rules often matter as much as the venue's.

How to build the shortlist

  1. Name the host and what the programme needs.
  2. Ask the host which options it can offer or accept.
  3. Ask BDA and Business Events Sarawak for venues.
  4. Send the same question list to every venue.
  5. Ask for answers in writing, with a date.
  6. Score the answers in the matrix, mark unconfirmed items, and ask suppliers to confirm your dates.

Coverage and travel

Planning support covers Malaysia, including Bintulu. Planning can be done remotely, and on-site support and travel can be arranged when the scope needs it. We work most in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Seremban.

Travel and accommodation are charged when they are part of the agreed scope. For the wider picture, see planning across Malaysia.

Worked example · Fictional example

A fictional association shortlists Bintulu options

Fictional organisation and figures, for illustration only.

The Persatuan Fiktif Kontraktor Perkhidmatan plans a one-day industry briefing in Bintulu for about 80 delegates. A member company offers a room on its own premises.

The committee asks the member company for entry rules and photography rules. It also asks BDA and two venues for alternatives. It keeps the member's room and one venue on the shortlist, and marks audio-visual support as open.

Handle it in-house, or bring in help?

Your team can usually handle this when

  • The host has already offered a room and its rules are clear.
  • The programme is short and needs few suppliers.
  • One person can make the calls and file the answers.

Outside planning help earns its fee when

  • The host, the venue and the suppliers each have different rules and nobody holds them together.
  • The programme needs interpretation, audio-visual support or registration help that may not be nearby.
  • The committee is far from Bintulu and wants one person to chase answers.

Would you like someone to run the enquiries?

A conference project lead can put your question list to the host, the venues and the suppliers, collect the answers in one matrix and keep the comparison in one place. We can also manage the whole event and coordinate the specialists it needs, where that suits your scope. Planning can be done remotely, and on-site support and travel to Bintulu can be arranged when the scope needs it. Travel and accommodation are charged when part of the agreed scope. Send your dates, delegate numbers and who is hosting, and we will reply with the level of support that fits and what it would cover.
