What to verify for Kota Bharu
- Which council covers the venue? The Kota Bharu Islamic City Municipal Council (MPKB-BRI) publishes its address on Jalan Hospital, but its pages do not state its coverage area. Ask the venue for its full address, then confirm the council with MPKB-BRI.
- Does a council hall suit your event? MPKB-BRI's hire page lists Dewan Jubli Perak among the halls for hire, with booking through an online system. It does not say whether conference use is covered. Ask the Property Management Division whether a conference is a permitted use, what is included and what the hire terms are. Confirm the rates with the council yourself.
- Does any part of your programme need a licence or permit? MPKB-BRI has announced entertainment licences under the Kelantan Entertainment and Entertainment Venues Enactment 2025, and its pages show no event-permit page. Ask MPKB-BRI whether any element, such as music or a performance, needs one, and whether a one-day conference needs a permit beyond hall hire.
- What does the venue require for session timings and breaks? Ask in writing whether it sets limits on start and finish times, and how it expects breaks and prayer times to be handled. Ask local contacts what they advise for your audience.
- What are the catering arrangements? Ask whether the venue requires its own caterer or allows an outside one, what its kitchen status is for your audience, and how dietary needs are handled. Ask for the answers in writing.
- What rules apply to content or entertainment? Ask the venue whether it has rules on content, music, dress or decoration for events held on its premises. Ask rather than assume.
- How do delegates arrive? The aeronautical information publication from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) lists Sultan Ismail Petra Airport at Pengkalan Chepa, operated by Malaysia Airports. Ask Malaysia Airports and the airlines about services on your dates. Check Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) for the East Coast Rail Link opening date and stations before you list it as an option.
- What are the rest days? Official sources point to Friday and Saturday as the rest days in Kelantan, but only the State Secretary's Office can confirm. Ask the venue which days its teams work.
